The Ardèche
     and the Vivarais Railway
 
We leave Megève at 5.30 a.m., on the autoroute via Annecy, then Chambéry, with a short stop en route, then continuing to TOURNON. At about 10 a.m. it's all aboard the little steam train on a journey through a magnificent landscape inaccessible by road. From its starting point, the train chugs along the charming Doux valley, then climbs up the mountain side, overlooking the sheer sides of the gorge, to arrive in LAMASTRE. Lunch locally.
 
After lunch the coach will take us to the Serrière area to visit the Still Museum, which tells the charming tale of the abandoned trade of the travelling distillers. The visit will be followed by a spirits tasting.
Then it's time to return to Megève, on the autoroute via Lyon and Chambéry.
