The Grands Crus
of Burgundy
Day 1 : MEGEVE / BEAUNE
We leave Megève at 6 a.m. and travel via Sallanches then the A40 autoroute via Mâcon, arriving at about 10.30 in BEAUNE, Burgundy's wine capital. On arrival, we visit the Hospices de Beaune: masterpieces of the 15th century and gothic art. Lunch in the town. In the afternoon we visit the Reine Pédauque aging cellars, which date from the 18th century, following which there will be a wine tasting.
In the late afternoon there is free time to explore Beaune, or you can visit the Burgundy Wine Museum (supplement payable), where you can learn all about the history of wine growing and making, from antiquity to the present day. Check into your hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2 : BEAUNE - NUIT ST GEORGES - VOUGEOT - MEGEVE
Breakfast and departure for the vineyards of La Côte de Nuits, nicknamed "Burgundy's Champs Elysée" because of the great reputations of its fine wines. We see the Aloxe Corton, NUITS ST GEORGES vineyards: visit and wine tasting in a wine cellar. After this visit we stop off in VOUGEOT for another visit and wine tasting in a cellar. Lunch locally. After lunch we will head back to Haute Savoie, following the same route as the outward journey. |
