Corsica
Day 1 : MEGEVE - MARSEILLE
We leave Megève at 6 a.m. and travel via Albertville, then on the Autoroute du Soleil to Marseille. Lunch in the city. After lunch the coach will take us to the foot of Notre Dame de la Garde, one of Marseille's finest landmarks and known worldwide as the "Bonne Mère des Marseillais". Free time. In the late afternoon we drive to the port to catch the Marseille - Ajaccio ferry, boarding the "Napoleon Bonaparte" at around 8 p.m. Time to settle in to your 4-berth internal cabin, dinner at the self -service restaurant (drinks not included), night on board.
Day 2 : AJACCIO
After breakfast on board we land in AJACCIO at around 7.30 a.m. We are met by a local guide for a guided tour of the town lasting 1 1/2 hours. Nicknamed "La Ville Blanche", Ajaccio is the symbol of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. We continue with an individual visit of the Route des Sanguinaires. Lunch. In the afternoon we go on an excursion into the Gorges de Prunelli, via Bastelica. Check in to your hotel in or near Ajaccio. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 : PROPRIANO - ZONZA - BAVELLA
Breakfast at the hotel. We then leave on a day trip visiting Propriano with its rocky mountains covered in maquis scrub land, Sartène the quintessentially Corsican town, Ste Lucie with its high granite houses, and Zonza, the crossroads village high up above the woodlands and pine forests. Lunch en route. In the afternoon there's an excursion to the Col de Bavella, from where we have a superb panorama over Les Aiguilles de Bavella. We return to our hotel at the end of the day. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 : BONIFACIO
Breakfast at the hotel. We then leave on a day trip to Bonifacio, travelling along the coast via Sartène, a town built on a rocky promontory. On to Bonifacio, a fortified town where you are free to visit the mediaeval city, built on top of white limestone cliffs. Lunch. Boat trip to the cliffs of Bonifacio, sculpted by the wind and waves. Free time in the town before we return to Ajaccio. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 : PORTO - LES CALANQUES DE PIANA - CALVI
After breakfast at the hotel we depart for Porto via Sagone (well known by the symbol of its Genoese tower), Vico and Evisa for the Gulf of Porto: cut by huge axe strokes into the side of the mountain. Lunch at a restaurant. We continue to Les Calanques de Piana, with their cliffs of red granite set in crystal clear water. Then it's on to Calvi, the pearl of the north and capital of La Balagne. Check into your hotel in or near Calvi. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 : CALVI - NICE - MEGEVE
Breakfast. A free morning in Calvi and your last shopping opportunity. Free time for lunch. We board an SNCM express ferry in the late morning, at around 11.20, arriving in Nice at about 2.20 p.m. Optional lunch in the restaurant. Then we return to Megève along the Route Napoleon. |
