The Gorges of
the Tarn
and the Cévennes
Day 1 : MEGEVE - GORGES OF THE TARN - ANDUZE
We leave Megève at 5.30 a.m. and travel on the autoroute via Sallanches, Lyon, St Etienne and le Puy en Velay, to the Gorges of the Tarn. Lunch en route. In the afternoon the coach will take us to La Malène for a boat trip down the Gorges of the Tarn. You will be taken by boat to the Cirque des Baumes, via the famous Straits, at the foot of 500-m high cliffs. There is a commentary during the 8 km trip explaining all about the fauna and flora found along the gorges. The coach will then pick us up and take us to the Anduze area. Check in, then dinner at your hotel.
Day 2 : THE CEVENNES
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we visit the Anduze Bamboo Grove. The only one of its kind in Europe, this exotic garden has a giant bamboo forest, an Asian village, water gardens, and Victorian greenhouses. Lunch. In the afternoon we take the little train on a 13-km trip into the heart of the Cévennes. The coach will meet us in Saint Jean du Gard. We visit the Musée des Vallées Cévenoles, a museum of the habits and customs of the region, situated in a former inn. Then it's back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 : UZES - PONT DU GARD - MEGEVE
Breakfast at the hotel, then we leave for Uzès and a visit of this historical town set in the middle of the garrigue countryside. We continue to the Pont du Gard, where you will have some free time to explore this unusual and imposing monument, dating from Roman times. Lunch en route. Return to Megève on the autoroute. |
