The Vercors
     Riverboat trip and visit of
     the Grotte de Choranche
 
Departing Megève at 6 a.m., we travel via Grenoble and Saint Marcellin to LA SONE. At about 10.30 we board a riverboat for a cruise lasting 1 1/2 hours in one of the finest parts of the Dauphiné. We see the village of La Sône with its Renaissance château, La Roselière du Creux - an important bird-watching area and home to a wide variety of animals - and the village of Saint Nazaire en Royans, famous for its aqueduct and red soil.
At about midday its back to dry land, to continue to CHORANCHE : lunch.
 
After lunch we leave for the Grotte de Choranche: a guide will take you along the well designed visitor trail inside the cave to witness the magnificent and unforgettable visual and sound spectacle: brittle stalactites as clear as crystal, tubular stalactites, some of which are more than 3 m across, etc. After the visit we head back to Megève, via the spectacular Gorges de la Bourne, Villard de Lans, the Gorges dEngin, then the autoroute via Grenoble and Albertville.
